Setting
At her 15th birthday, Aya finds out she is the reincarnation of Ceres, a Nymph whose sole purpose is to destroy her family. To prevent this from happening, the whole family is set to kill her at all costs before she 'awakens' with her true powers, and very few will show any mercy at poor Aya, who is not at fault for having this fated curse. Unfortunately, for both sides, things are not that simple.
Pacing
The first two episodes show exactly how the whole setting is: dark, cold and realistic, without mercy. Above that, you can expect a good title if you don't mind a alternative ... ending. Ayashi no Ceres worries a lot about it's pacing and development, and leaves battles and fights as a background while developing it's plot, and the battle, which seams to be coming, are always been postponed or really at a second plane, leaving drama and characters always in focus - that will please some, and annoy others.
Focusing at the subtleness and character relationships development, Ayashi no Ceres is an excellent title for the romantics and emotional. Do not watch expecting huge epic battles between good and evil, but a solid, dense and yet human ending. Also be prepared to loose some precious feelings and ... characters.
Conclusion
A nice catch for most of the viewers, Ayashi no Ceres have a little of every genre and characteristics, and won't let down the critic fan. You might as well be a little ready for some gore.
Highly indicated, at least as an interesting title at the least.
Ayashi no Ceres is from Watase Yuu, the author from Fushigi Yuugi;
